The HST Programme
Training that builds real capacity, not just awareness
A structured, evidence-informed programme that helps people understand their nervous system, recognise stress before it becomes crisis, and build the practical skills to work well under sustained pressure.
The problem
Why most wellbeing programmes fall short
Most workplace wellbeing initiatives raise awareness but stop short of building capability. People learn that stress and burnout exist, but not what to actually do when their own nervous system is overwhelmed, in the moment, at work.
Presenteeism costs UK employers twice as much as absenteeism.
The result is a workforce that looks fine on paper while quietly running on empty, until it isn’t fine at all. HST was built to close that gap.
What HST is
The Human State Training Programme
Created by Ollie Frost and Pete Craig, and independently evaluated in partnership with Bangor University under Professor Ross Roberts, HST teaches people how their nervous system actually works, and gives them practical tools to regulate it under real pressure.
Not therapy. Not counselling. Practical training in how to function well when things get hard.

Programme structure
Four phases, one continuous arc
Organisational Assessment
Before any training happens, we take time to understand your organisation, its pressures, culture and existing support, so the programme is shaped around your reality, not a generic template.
Two-Day In-Person Training
Delivered to groups of up to 20, this is experiential learning, not a lecture. People leave with a working understanding of their own nervous system and the tools to use it.
The nervous system & human states
Stress, capacity & regulation
Emotions & somatic awareness (SET model)
Psychological safety & relational dynamics
Mental health as a spectrum
Burnout, recovery & sustainable performance
Each participant leaves with a personal resilience toolkit they can use immediately, in and out of work.
Six-Week Integration Programme
A structured online follow-up that turns two days of learning into a lasting habit, with one theme introduced each week.
Week 1
Tolerate challenge
Week 2
Notice and name: rewiring beliefs
Week 3
The power of reflection
Week 4
Mindful movement and breath
Week 5
Discharge stored stress
Week 6
Next phase: beliefs continued
Measurement & Ongoing Support
Working alongside Professor of Ross Roberts with his deep expertise in psychological performance, resilience, pressure and human behaviour under demanding conditions, the programme’s impact is measured over time and aligned to the HSE Management Standards, so progress is evidenced, not assumed.

How HST differs
A different job to everything else
vs Mental Health First Aid
MHFA teaches people to recognise a crisis in others. HST teaches everyone to understand and regulate their own nervous system before a crisis point is reached.
vs Standard wellbeing
Standard wellbeing initiatives raise awareness with talks and perks. HST builds practical, embodied skill through structured training and a six-week integration programme.
vs Therapy / clinical
Therapy treats individual clinical need. HST is preventative, organisation-wide training, not a clinical intervention, and not a replacement for one where it’s needed.
Research
Evidence-based, independently evaluated
HST is delivered under the guidance of Professor Ross Roberts, to independently evaluate its impact and continually strengthen the evidence base behind the programme.

Frequently asked questions
How long is the programme?
The full arc runs across an initial assessment, a two-day in-person training, and a six-week online integration programme, followed by ongoing measurement.
How many people can take part?
In-person training is delivered to groups of up to 20 people to keep the experience genuinely interactive.
Is training delivered on-site?
Yes, the two-day training is typically delivered at your organisation, and can also be delivered off-site if preferred.
Can the programme be adapted to our sector?
Yes. The organisational assessment phase is used to tailor language, examples and emphasis to your sector and context.
How is impact measured?
Impact is measured over time in partnership with Bangor University and aligned to the HSE Management Standards.
How does this relate to our EAP or MHFA provision?
HST complements existing EAP and Mental Health First Aid provision rather than replacing it; it builds preventative capacity upstream of crisis.
What does the programme cost?
Cost depends on group size and organisational needs. Book a consultation and we will provide a tailored proposal.
What support is there after the programme ends?
Organisations can continue with ongoing measurement and refresher sessions to sustain the change achieved during the programme.
